Laurie first started training karate with my dad at age 4 as they were looking for an activity the whole family could do. When they began karate, it was at their local gym. Laurie began training in April 2006 and has been training now for almost 12 years. As the years have passed Laurie has gone all the way up the belts and just recently passed his 3rd dan. Not only has karate made him a more confident disciplined person it has opened many different opportunities for him from training with world level athletes and to competing in national competitions and for the past three years Laurie has been able to pass on my skills by teaching at a dojo in Radcliff.
At the start Laurie lacked confidence and was scared of speaking in front of groups of people and now every week he can stand in front of a room and deliver a lesson to 20, 30 and more students of all ages and abilities. Through karate Laurie has made many friends there is a very good group of people who are very easy to become friends with.
Karate has given Laurie the opportunities to train with all different kinds of instructors like Junior Lefevre one of if not the best instructor in the world. He have also been privileged to train with the likes of Christina Kavakopoulou, Rebecca Ferrer and Michael Dasoul.
Sensei Jason has for the past 12 years coached me from white belt to 3rd dan black belt. Over the years karate has gone from being a club to more of a family.
